NURO, Upi, Maguindanao – The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) organized its chapter for Cotabato City and Maguindanao during a meeting on Saturday, October 17 at NDBC Office, Cotabato City.
Mr. Caloy Bautista, Station Manager of the Notre Dame Broadcasting Corporation (NDBC) -DXMS AM Radio was elected as chapter chairman. Mr. John Felix Unson, correspondent of the Philippine Star for Central Mindanao was elected as chapter vice chairperson.
Mr. Jeff Mendez, DXMS Program Director was elected Secretary-General, Mr. Noel Punsalan of the Philippine News Agency as Treasurer, and Alih S. Anso, Program Director of DXUP, a community radio in Upi, Maguindanao as auditor.
The new set of officers and members took their oath before NUJP National Director Sonny Fernandez of the ABS-CBN.
Since it was formed in 1986, NUJP has been advancing the interests of Filipino Journalists while promoting free expression of ideas and free press. It has 1,500 members in more than 60 chapters throughout the Philippines and abroad.
The NUJP is an organization dedicated to look after the interests of Filipino journalists and maintaining media practitioner’s commitment to observe code of ethics.
The union seeks to achieve unity, integrity and dignity for the working press.
The NUJP further aims at promoting and protecting the economic interest and social well-being of the working press, upgrade professional skills, uplift the standards of journalistic ethics, implement welfare programs for its members, and develop solidarity among all journalists.
