Cotabato City – “Whoever wins the elections must honor the CAB and place it among the top of his or her agenda to ensure that everyone’s obligations are fulfilled’, Chairman Al Haj Murad Ebrahim of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) said in a message read by MILF General Secretariat Chief Muhammad Ameen during a program held at the Notre Dame University Gymnasium, Cotabato City on March 28, 2016 in commemoration of the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro(CAB) held at the Notre Dame University Gymnasium, Cotabato City on March 28, 2016.
“He or she (next president) must recognize that while the risk of failure is high, so are the costs of failure,” Al Haj Murad said in his statement.
Al Haj Murad said the ‘CAB is a good start to guide the incoming administration who will replace the Aquino government’.
Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) Secretary Teresita Quintos-Deles, MILF Peace Panel Chair Mohagher Iqbal and Prof. Miriam-Coronel Ferrer, Chair of the Government Peace panel, officers and members of various ceasefire mechanisms, such as the CCCH, IMT, ADJAG, and other committees or groups created by the peace panels such as the TPMT, JNC, BTC, BLMI, and the security sector, state and non-state actors were present during the program.
The MILF Chair says that the MILF will continue to ask government to comply with its unilateral obligation to enact a law that would give life and realization to the letter and spirit of the CAB.
After almost 2 decades of negotiations, the GPH and MILF signed the CAB on March 27, 2014 at Malañan Palace to end more than four decades of war and conflict in the Southern Philippines.
Chairman Murad reaffirms the MILF position that anything below the existing status quo is objectionable to the MILF.
The CAB intends to establish a new political entity called Bangsamoro to address the legitimate grievances of the Bangsamoro people and its quests for right to self-determination.
“We need to assert the CAB and its implementation, which ensure the most reasonable framework for a sustainable basis for peace, stability and development.” Al Haj Murad said
The MILF Chair called on the Bangsamoro people to stand up and stand strong for peace and urge to observe steadfast and the need to solidify as united Bangsamoro struggle.
“Remember that the greatest interest of the Bangsamoro is our primordial concern”, Al Haj Murad said.
A new administration will assume office by June 30 after the May 2016 elections.
